Safeguard has a route for each major browser. Chrome and Edge use the Chrome Web Store listing, Firefox has an addons.mozilla.org listing, and Safari's extension comes inside the iOS app and the Mac app. The download page lists extensions as version 1.0.4 and notes Edge's own listing and Safari on Mac as pending.
The comparison
| Browser | Where to get it | Form | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chrome | Chrome Web Store | Side panel | Same listing covers Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera and Edge |
| Edge | Chrome Web Store listing | Side panel | Own Add-ons listing planned later |
| Firefox | addons.mozilla.org | Sidebar | Firefox 113 or later |
| Safari, iPhone and iPad | Safeguard.sh iOS app, App Store | Extension | Enable in Settings |
| Safari, Mac | Mac App Store app | Extension | Marked in Apple review when we checked |
Chrome and Edge
The docs describe the extension as a thin wrapper that embeds Safeguard's AI search page in a side panel, for Chrome 114 and later and Edge 114 and later. Chrome and Edge request only the sidePanel permission and have no host permissions, per the docs. Edge users install from the Chrome listing for now, or load it unpacked.
Firefox
The same search page in a sidebar, from Firefox 113. The Firefox listing is where the feature list is written out: account based answers, saved threads shared with the web app, attachments and attaching the current tab. Its data declarations differ in tone from the docs, so read both.
Safari
Safari works differently because Apple delivers extensions inside apps. On iPhone and iPad, install the iOS app and switch the extension on under Settings, Apps, Safari, Extensions, or Settings, Safari, Extensions before iOS 18. On Mac, it is in the Mac app and is enabled in Safari, Settings, Extensions. The pages we reviewed do not describe what the Safari extension does on a page, so we do not compare its features with the others.
What is the same everywhere?
A Safeguard account is the base. In Chrome, Edge and Firefox you sign in inside the embedded page, or by approval in Firefox's case, and the extension stores no credentials per the docs. Chrome and Edge ask for no host permissions.
Which should I choose?
You choose the one for the browser you use. If you use several, install on each. For a team, standardize on the official link per browser and publish it.
What about other Chromium browsers?
The download page says the Chrome Web Store listing also covers Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera and Edge. That is the page's statement, so people on those browsers install from that one listing.
What to do
- Open the download page and use the link for your browser.
- Confirm the publisher is Safeguard.sh Inc.
- Sign in and ask a known question.
- Note the Safari on Mac status line before planning around it.
Quick check
Does Edge have its own listing?
Not yet. The download page says Edge gets its own Add-ons listing later, so use the Chrome Web Store listing for now.
Is the Safari extension a separate download?
No. It is included in the iOS app and the Mac app.
