On iOS 18 and later, Safari extensions are under Settings, Apps, Safari, Extensions. Before iOS 18, they are under Settings, Safari, Extensions. Both paths lead to the same list, where you switch Safeguard on after installing the Safeguard iOS app.
Why does the path differ?
The download page gives both paths for the Safeguard Safari extension. We do not need to explain Apple's reasons; what matters is that the same instruction fails on the wrong version. A person on an older iPhone who looks for an Apps entry will not find it, and a person on a newer one who looks for Safari at the top level may miss it.
The two paths side by side
| Your iOS | Where to look |
|---|---|
| iOS 18 or later | Settings, Apps, Safari, Extensions |
| Earlier than iOS 18 | Settings, Safari, Extensions |
How do I check my version?
Open Settings, then General, then About, and read the iOS Version line. On iPad, it says iPadOS, and the same two paths apply per the download page, which gives them for iPhone and iPad together.
What is the minimum version for the app?
The App Store listing gives iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 as the minimum. So a phone on iOS 16.4 or 17 uses the earlier path, and the app is still installable.
Step list once you are in the right screen
- Find Safeguard in the extensions list. If it is not there, the app may not be installed or may never have been opened.
- Switch the toggle on.
- Open Safari to confirm.
When the toggle is missing for a different reason
The App Store listing's 2.0.3 notes say the Safari extension is among features that the workspace administrator must enable. If you are in a company workspace and see nothing, the admin switch is the next place to look.
A tip for helpdesks
Write both paths in your internal guide, and add the iOS version check as step one. It saves the most common support exchange, which is "I cannot find it" followed by a screenshot of the wrong screen.
Can I do it from inside Safari?
On many iOS versions Safari also has a page settings menu with an Extensions entry, but the Safeguard pages we read give only the Settings paths above, so we stick to those.
What to do
- Check the iOS version.
- Use the matching path from the table.
- Switch Safeguard on.
- If it is missing, check the app install and the admin setting.
Quick check
Does the iPad use the same path as the iPhone?
The download page gives one set of paths for iPhone and iPad, split by iOS version. We did not find a different iPad path in the pages we reviewed.
Do I need the app open for the extension to appear?
Install the app and sign in once. If the extension is missing, open the app again, then recheck Settings.
