Cursor Pro is a legacy plan at $20 a month, per Cursor's pages fetched on 18 October 2026. It includes two monthly usage pools, one for Cursor's own models and one for third-party models. Extra use is billed on demand only if you switch it on and set a limit. New customers now start on a different subscription.

Prices and limits below are what Cursor published when we fetched its pricing page and docs on 18 October 2026. They change, so check the live page before you buy. We make no claims about what any provider spends to run its models, only about what Cursor lists for customers.

Is Pro still on sale?

Cursor's pricing page now lists Free, Plus ($8 a month), Premium ($30), Super ($100), Ultra ($200), Teams and Enterprise. Pro does not appear. Cursor's docs call Pro, Pro+, Ultra, Start and the older Teams seats "legacy plans" that keep working as they are for existing customers. The docs say new customers start on The X Subscription, and that switching from a legacy plan is optional and permanent.

The docs map Pro to Premium as the nearest comparable tier. They also say comparable means closest, not identical.

What does the Pro plan include?

Cursor's legacy plans page says Pro, Pro+ and Ultra include both usage pools, unlimited Tab completions, Bugbot, Cloud Agents, Automations, Origin and the Cursor SDK. Pro includes less of each pool than Pro+ and Ultra. The page does not state pool sizes in dollars or tokens for Pro, so we do not either.

The two pools work like this:

  • Cursor Models covers Grok 4.7, Grok 4.6, Grok 4.5 and Composer 2.5.
  • Other Models covers third-party models such as Claude, GPT and Gemini, drawn down at each model's API price.

Both pools reset with your monthly billing cycle. When you pick a third-party model, or Auto routes to one, the request draws from Other Models. Named third-party models used by subagents draw from it too, even when the parent chat runs on a Cursor model.

What do you pay on top?

On Pro, on-demand usage is off until you turn it on under Spending in your dashboard, where you also set a monthly spend limit. Once on, it lets you keep working after a pool runs out, billed monthly in arrears at the same per-model rates as included usage. Cursor says quality and speed do not change.

Compare that with the current plans, where one weekly pool covers Cursor models, third-party models are not included and are paid from prepaid credit at API list price, and a monthly additional usage limit caps spending. That is a different billing shape, not just a different price.

Which security work fits inside a plan like this?

Cursor's pages do not rank tasks, so this is our reasoning, not Cursor's. Reading a diff or asking an agent to explain a dependency advisory is a short request. Asking an agent to walk a large repository and rewrite many files is a long one. Long requests on a third-party model are the ones that draw the Other Models pool fastest, because that pool is metered at each model's API price.

If you run security checks inside Cursor, a scanner that runs outside the model avoids that drain. Safeguard's IDE extension installs in Cursor through Open VSX and scans dependency manifests as you work, and the Safeguard MCP server connects to Cursor through its MCP settings, with unlimited tool calls on every plan. Safeguard does not meter those tool calls. How your Cursor plan counts the model use around them is set by Cursor.

What to do

  1. Open your Cursor dashboard and note which plan name it shows. If it says Pro, you are on the legacy plan.
  2. Read the Cursor Models and Other Models meters for a normal week. The docs say both are visible in editor settings and on the usage dashboard.
  3. Check whether on-demand usage is on and what your monthly limit is.
  4. Before switching, read the legacy plans page. It says the switch is permanent and that the new plans drop the included third-party allowance.
  5. Pick one model for routine work and keep the expensive one for hard problems.
  6. Re-read the pricing page next quarter. Plans have already changed once.

Quick check

How much is Cursor Pro per month?

Cursor's legacy plans page lists Pro at $20 a month, as fetched on 18 October 2026. It is no longer on the main pricing page.

Does Pro include third-party models like Claude or GPT?

Yes, through the Other Models pool, drawn down at each model's API price. The newer plans do not include third-party models and bill them separately.

What happens when a pool runs out on Pro?

Nothing is charged unless you enabled on-demand usage. If you did, extra use is billed monthly at the same per-model rates, up to your spend limit.
