How questionnaire answering works in Safeguard

Safeguard imports a security questionnaire and drafts answers from your approved trust content, with a confidence level and sources for each, then a person reviews. What is documented so far.

Customer security questionnaires repeat the same questions in different words. The slow part is not knowing the answer. It is finding the approved wording and checking that it is still true.

Safeguard's questionnaire auto-answer is built around that. This post covers what the docs say about it, and it keeps to that, because the feature is described briefly.

What the docs say

The July 2026 release notes describe questionnaire auto-answer as part of the Trust Center work. You import SIG, CAIQ or spreadsheet questionnaires and get grounded draft answers from your approved trust content. Each draft comes with a confidence level and cited sources, and it is meant for human review.

Three words in that description matter.

Grounded. Answers come from content you have approved, not from open-ended generation. If your approved material does not cover a question, there is nothing solid to ground a draft on.

Confidence and sources. Each draft tells the reviewer how sure it is and where the answer came from, so a reviewer can check the source rather than re-research the question.

Review. These are drafts. A person decides what goes back to the customer.

What feeds the answers

Your trust content lives in the Trust Center and the compliance programme behind it. The Trust Center setup page lists what you can maintain there: frameworks and their status, published controls read from continuous monitoring, policies, sub-processors, a data collected section, an FAQ, dated updates, audit outcome and documents. Documents carry a category, and Questionnaire is one of the categories, with Public or Restricted visibility.

The practical consequence is simple. The better and more current that content is, the better the drafts will be. Keep statements true today. The Trust Center docs say the same about its quick summary highlights.

A sensible workflow

  1. Keep your Trust Center content, policies and sub-processor list current.
  2. Import the incoming questionnaire in its original format.
  3. Review each draft, checking the confidence level and opening the cited sources.
  4. Edit or replace anything you cannot support with evidence, and route gaps to the owner of that control.
  5. Send the reviewed answers, and keep the approved wording so the next questionnaire starts from it.

Do not send a draft that you have not read. Do not describe a certification or audit status that your own records do not show.

Related: the other side of questionnaires

Safeguard's Third Party Risk Manager covers the opposite direction. Vendors can submit SBOMs directly, respond to questionnaires and view their risk status through the vendor portal.

Where to confirm details

The docs do not yet detail supported file formats beyond the ones named, limits or review states. Confirm anything beyond SIG, CAIQ and spreadsheets with Safeguard before you rely on it.
