To export Claude data, open Settings, then Privacy, on the web app or Claude Desktop and click Export data. Anthropic emails a download link to your account address. You must be signed in, and the link expires 24 hours after delivery. The iOS and Android apps cannot start an export.
Steps
Anthropic's privacy center gives two steps for individual accounts on Free, Pro and Max.
- Open Settings, then Privacy, on the web app or Claude Desktop.
- Click Export data.
The export may take a short while to generate. A download link is sent to the email address on your account. Use it while signed in. If the link expires, repeat the steps to get a new one.
What is in the file
For individual accounts: your account information and your chat history. For Team and Enterprise members, it is your own chats, and the contents of files you uploaded are not included.
Rules for Team and Enterprise
Members can export their own data only after an organization Owner or Primary Owner turns on "Allow members to export their own data." Primary Owners do not get the personal export button. They export the whole organization's data from Organization settings, then Data and privacy.
What it cannot do
Exported data cannot be imported into another personal Claude account. Personal to personal migration is not supported. If you are joining a Team or Enterprise organization, Anthropic points to a separate option to move your personal account into the workspace instead.
When to export
- Before you delete an account, because deletion is permanent.
- Before cancelling a paid plan if you want a copy of your work.
- Once a year, as a personal record, if your chats hold work you want to keep.
Treat the file as sensitive
A chat export may contain everything you ever typed, including things you forgot. Store it in an encrypted folder, avoid emailing it on, and delete the download when you are finished. Check the folder where your browser saves downloads, since the file is easy to leave behind.
Quick check
Can I start an export from my phone?
No. Anthropic says exports are not possible from the iOS or Android apps.

Repeat the export steps to get a new link. Each link expires 24 hours after delivery.
