CVE-2025-8227 is a medium severity (CVSS 6.3) deserialization flaw in ChanCMS up to 3.1.2. The taskUrl argument of /collect/getArticle is mishandled. The record says version 3.1.3 fixes it, and it names the patch commit 33d9bb464353015aaaba84e27638ac9a3912795d. Public exploit details exist, so upgrade promptly.

What's affected

ChanCMS from yanyutao0402, up to and including 3.1.2. The file is /collect/getArticle and the manipulated argument is taskUrl. The record states that upgrading to 3.1.3 addresses the issue and that the patch is the commit named above.

The record's description says the issue was declared critical by the reporting source, while the CVSS 3.1 score is 6.3 with the vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L, which is medium. I show both. The score is what most trackers will display.

I tried to read the patch commit on Gitee, but the page required a login, so I cannot tell you what the change does. I also cannot say whether a login is needed to reach the endpoint. Read the commit and the linked issue yourself before you judge your own exposure.

How to check if you're exposed

Find the version of ChanCMS in package.json or the admin panel. Up to 3.1.2 is in scope.

grep '"version"' package.json

Check whether your deployment exposes the article collection feature, the route containing /collect/. If you never use collection, that route may still be reachable, so look at the reverse proxy rules as well.

In access logs, look for requests to /collect/getArticle and note the source addresses.

grep "/collect/getArticle" /var/log/nginx/access.log | tail -n 50

What to do now

  1. Upgrade to ChanCMS 3.1.3 or later.
  2. Confirm the patch commit is included if you run a fork or a vendored copy.
  3. Restrict the collection feature to administrators and trusted networks until the upgrade is done.
  4. Review logs for the route since the site went live.
  5. Run the site under an account with limited file and network permissions.

Why it matters

The record lists CWE-20 (Improper Input Validation) and CWE-502 (Deserialization of Untrusted Data). Deserialization turns stored or transmitted data back into live objects. If an attacker controls what is turned back into an object, the application may do things its authors never planned. The safe pattern is to avoid deserializing data you do not control, or to accept only simple formats such as plain JSON with strict checks.

The record does not flag this CVE as CISA KEV and makes no claim of exploitation in the wild, though it says the exploit has been disclosed to the public.

Quick check

What is the fix?

Upgrade to 3.1.3 or later. The record names commit 33d9bb464353015aaaba84e27638ac9a3912795d as the patch.

Why is deserialization risky?

It rebuilds objects from data. If the data comes from an untrusted source, the application can be steered into unintended behavior. Treat that data as input to be validated, not trusted.
