For five people, Claude Team on standard seats costs $100 a month billed annually or $125 billed monthly, as published on 18 October 2026. API access is metered per token instead. Seats suit people chatting all day; the API suits automation. Many teams end up using both.
All prices below were read from Anthropic's pricing page on 18 October 2026. They exclude tax and the page says plans and prices may change, so check it before you buy.
What does the Team plan cost?
The page lists Team for 2 to 150 seats, in two seat types:
- Standard: $20 per seat per month billed annually, $25 billed monthly.
- Premium: $100 per seat per month billed annually, $125 billed monthly.
Standard is described as more usage than Pro. Premium is 5x Standard usage. Team also lists up to $500 a month in pooled API credits.
For five seats that works out to:
- Five standard seats: $100 a month annual, $125 monthly.
- Five premium seats: $500 a month annual, $625 monthly.
- Mixed, say four standard and one premium: $180 annual, $225 monthly.
Enterprise is listed at $20 per seat per month billed annually with a 20 seat minimum, plus usage at API rates. Five people do not meet that minimum.
What does the API cost?
API pricing is per million tokens. Current published rates for Sonnet 5.5 are $2 input and $10 output. Opus 5.5 is $4 and $20. Haiku 5.5 is $0.10 and $0.50 for prompts up to 100K tokens. Batch processing is listed as a 50 percent saving, and cache reads on Sonnet 5.5 are $0.10 per million.
Here is a sketch. The usage numbers are our assumption, not a measurement. Say a triage script reads 20 million input tokens and writes 4 million output tokens in a month on Sonnet 5.5. That is 20 times $2 plus 4 times $10, so $80. The same job through batch processing would be about $40 if it can wait.
Your own volume could be ten times that or a tenth. Run a week of real work, read the token counts, then multiply.
When do seats win?
Seats win when people use the chat interface for reading advisories, drafting write-ups, reviewing config and asking follow-up questions through the day. Cost is flat, which makes budgeting easy. The cost to watch is usage limits: the page notes they apply, so a heavy user may hit a ceiling that metered billing would not impose.
When does the API win?
The API wins when the work is a pipeline: summarising every new advisory, classifying alerts, enriching tickets. Spend follows volume, and you can pick a smaller model for simple steps. Caching and batch discounts only exist here. You also carry the engineering work of building and monitoring the pipeline.
Can one team use both?
Yes. The Team plan's pooled API credits (up to $500 a month per the page) are there for that mix. We have not seen the page spell out how those credits are claimed, so read the plan terms before you plan around them.
If you connect Claude to Safeguard, the MCP server at mcp.safeguard.sh has unlimited tool calls on every plan, so that part does not add a per call meter. Model usage is still billed by whoever provides the model.
What to do
- Count real use for two weeks: who chats daily, and which jobs run on a schedule.
- Price seats for the chat users, using the monthly rate first so you can leave.
- Estimate token volume for scripted jobs from a sample run and price it at the model rate.
- Use a smaller model for classification steps and test quality before standardising.
- Check the pooled credit terms before counting them as free.
- Recheck the pricing page on the day you buy.
