Interactive, human paced security work fits a Claude Max plan best: reading advisories, reviewing findings, drafting fixes, writing reports and working in Claude Code. Large unattended jobs are harder to plan, because Anthropic does not publish fixed message counts. Prices and limits below were fetched from Anthropic's pages on 18 October 2026.

What does Max cost and include?

From Anthropic's pricing page, fetched on 18 October 2026: Max starts from 100 dollars per month. Max 5x and Max 20x give 5 times or 20 times the usage of Pro, and Claude Code is included in both. Pro is listed at 17 dollars per month with annual billing (200 dollars billed up front) or 20 dollars per month billed monthly.

Anthropic's support article on the Max plan, also fetched that day, lists Max 5x at 100 dollars per month and Max 20x at 200 dollars per month for web subscriptions, and notes that mobile pricing may differ. Prices and plans are subject to change at Anthropic's discretion, so confirm on the page before you budget.

What are the limits?

The pricing page says every plan has usage limits that reset on a rolling five hour session window, and paid plans also have weekly limits. Anthropic may add other limits, such as weekly and monthly caps, to manage capacity, applied at its discretion. Claude Code shares the same usage pool as the rest of the plan. The support article says Max has a weekly limit across all models that resets at a fixed time assigned to your account, and that you can see the next reset in Settings, then Usage.

The key point for planning: the pages give multiples of Pro usage, not a token or message count. We do not know, and will not guess, how many findings or files a given tier covers. We also make no claim about what the plan costs Anthropic to provide.

Which security tasks fit well?

Work where a person is in the loop and the pace is human:

  • Explaining a CVE or advisory and its impact on your stack.
  • Reviewing a pull request or a scanner finding, one at a time.
  • Drafting a patch, a test or a mitigation note, then checking it yourself.
  • Writing a postmortem, a policy or a customer questionnaire answer from your own notes.
  • Interactive investigation in Claude Code on one repository.

These are bursty, and a five hour window gives you natural breaks.

Which tasks are risky to plan around a subscription?

Long unattended runs that consume the pool for hours, such as scanning many repositories with a model, triaging thousands of findings in one go, or running many parallel agents. They can hit the session or weekly limit and stop. Anything that must finish by a deadline or run on a schedule is better served by tooling with predictable capacity. Shared team workloads also compete for one person's allowance, since the limits are per subscription.

How does this connect to Safeguard?

Safeguard's MCP server lets Claude read your findings, SBOMs and policies, and tool calls on the Safeguard side are unlimited on every plan. That does not change Claude's own usage limits, which still count your conversations. Safeguard also supports Zero AI mode, so scheduled scanning and gating need no LLM at all, and bring your own model if you want to choose the model yourself. Use the subscription for the thinking and the deterministic tools for the volume.

What to do

  1. Re-fetch Anthropic's pricing and Max support pages before each budget cycle.
  2. Split work into human paced tasks and volume tasks.
  3. Put volume tasks on deterministic scanning that needs no LLM, and use Claude for the review step.
  4. Track how often you hit a limit for a month, and note which task caused it.
  5. If limits block deadline work, move that task to a plan or interface with predictable capacity.
  6. Keep sensitive data rules in mind; check what you paste into any assistant.

Quick check

Does Max give unlimited use?

No. The pages describe session and weekly limits, and say other caps may apply.

Is Claude Code included?

Yes, per the pricing page, in Pro and Max, sharing the same usage pool.
