No. Apple's App Privacy answers are edited in App Store Connect and take effect when you click Publish, with no new app version needed. The privacy policy URL is different: a change to it ships with your next app version. Only the Account Holder, Admin or App Manager can edit the answers.
What Apple's help page says
You must include the practices of third party partners whose code you integrate into your app, and you are responsible for keeping answers accurate. If your practices change, update them. For an app already on the store, answers should reflect data collected by that app version. Adding a data type means answering its questions before you can publish, and removing one removes your responses to it.
Apple does not state a deadline for updating after a change, so the safe rule is to update before the build that changes behaviour goes live.
When an SDK change should trigger an update
- A new SDK that collects a data type you did not declare.
- An upgrade whose release notes mention new identifiers, diagnostics or analytics.
- A change in what an existing SDK sends, found when you test traffic.
- An SDK removed, so a data type no longer applies.
Steps
- Read the SDK's own documentation on data collection for the new version.
- Capture its network traffic on a test device, to see what leaves the app.
- Compare against your current answers.
- Ask the right person to edit. If you are not the Account Holder, Admin or App Manager, you cannot.
- Click Publish only once the build with the change is ready to ship, so the page does not say more or less than the live app does.
- Record the change, date and SDK version in your SDK register.
Mistakes to avoid
Trusting the SDK vendor's summary alone. The vendor describes what its SDK can do. Your configuration decides what it does in your app.
Forgetting Android. Google Play has its own data safety form. Keep both in step.
Updating the policy text but not the label. They are separate places, and the URL only changes with a new version.
Try it yourself
Click through it at your own pace, or open it full screen. See how one finding maps to several obligations, which is the same habit that keeps labels and policies aligned.
Safeguard offers compliance and evidence automation, which can hold the dated record of what you changed and why. A free scan shows your SDK inventory first.
Quick check
Does an SDK upgrade always change my privacy answers?
No. Check the release notes and test the traffic. Many upgrades change nothing you declared.
Who can click Publish on the privacy answers?
The Account Holder, Admin or App Manager for the questions, per Apple's help page.
