CVE-2026-48334 is a critical improper input validation flaw (CVSS 9.3) in Adobe Illustrator that could result in arbitrary code execution as the current user. It needs user interaction: the victim must open a malicious file. Adobe's bulletin APSB26-79 lists the fixed versions, so update through Creative Cloud.
What's affected
Adobe Illustrator, with the record also naming Microsoft Windows as the platform. The record does not list version numbers, and the Adobe bulletin page did not load for our review. Read APSB26-79 for the affected and fixed versions.
The attack needs a person to open a crafted file. The scope is changed, so impact can go beyond the application itself.
How to check if you're exposed
On each machine, open Illustrator and use Help, then About Illustrator to read the version. In Creative Cloud Desktop, check the Updates tab. Compare the version with the fixed version in bulletin APSB26-79.
Design teams often keep older versions installed side by side, so check every installed version, not only the newest.
What to do now
- Read APSB26-79 and note the fixed Illustrator version.
- Update through Creative Cloud, or push the update with your software deployment tool.
- Remove old Illustrator versions that you no longer need.
- Remind staff not to open Illustrator files from unknown senders, and consider blocking such files at the mail gateway.
Why it matters
The class is CWE-20, improper input validation. File parsers handle complicated formats, and a parser that trusts the file's contents can be pushed into doing something the author never intended. Here the advisory ties that to code execution with the user's rights.
Because a user has to open the file, the realistic attack path is a file sent by email, chat or a shared link. That makes the update and file handling habits the fix. The record does not mark this CVE as exploited in the wild, and it is not on the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list.
There is no package manifest to scan for this one, so inventory comes first. List every host, instance or device running an affected build. The Gold directory page for CVE-2026-48334 is a handy place to follow later updates.
Quick check
Do I need to worry if nobody opens unknown files?
Treat files from partners and clients as untrusted too. Update anyway, because one crafted file in an ordinary workflow is enough.
