CVE-2025-59247 is a high severity (CVSS 8.8) elevation of privilege vulnerability in Microsoft Azure PlayFab. The record gives only the title and vector. Read the Microsoft MSRC entry to confirm whether any customer action is needed. The sections below cover who is affected, how to check, and what to do now.

What's affected

The record names Microsoft Azure PlayFab and gives no version range. The NVD description is only the title, Azure PlayFab Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability.

I could not load the MSRC advisory to confirm affected components or a fix, so the advisory should be checked directly. Cloud service CVEs are often fixed on the provider side, but do not assume that here without reading the entry.

How to check if you're exposed

Microsoft publishes this entry in the Security Update Guide. I could not load the MSRC page from the command line, so I am not going to state details it contains. Open the entry for CVE-2025-59247 and read three things: whether it says the issue is already mitigated in the service, whether any customer action is listed, and which components or configurations it names.

Then check your own side. PlayFab is managed through the PlayFab Game Manager and its APIs rather than through Azure Resource Manager, so list the titles you own, the people and service accounts with roles on each, and any secret keys in use. Remove access that is no longer needed and rotate keys you cannot account for.

What to do now

  1. Read the MSRC entry for CVE-2025-59247 and note whether any customer action is required.
  2. Inventory your PlayFab resources and the identities that can manage or use them.
  3. Apply least privilege to role assignments on those resources and remove stale ones.
  4. Turn on diagnostic logging for the resources and send it somewhere you review.
  5. Record the date you reviewed the entry so the next audit can see it was done.

Why it matters

The record maps this to CWE-269 (improper privilege management) and CWE-565 (reliance on cookies without validation and integrity checking). The vector shows it needs a low privileged account on the network, no user interaction, and has high impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability.

That combination is why the score is 8.8. A person who already has a foothold with ordinary rights could, according to the title, raise those rights. It is not on the CISA KEV list, and the record has no exploitation information.

Authorization flaws are different from authentication flaws. The user may be properly logged in, yet the application fails to check whether that user is allowed to perform the specific action. These bugs are common in APIs because every endpoint has to repeat the check, and one missing check is enough.

The most useful test is to try each privileged action as an ordinary user and as an anonymous one, and confirm the server refuses both. Automated tests that do this for every route catch the regression the next time someone adds an endpoint.

A dependency scan will not see this one, because it concerns a product or service rather than a package in your code. The practical step is an asset inventory that records which of these products you run, which version, and who owns it. You can look up the record for this CVE in the Safeguard Gold directory and use the free scan at gold.safeguard.sh/scan for the software you build yourself.

Quick check

Do I need to patch anything for CVE-2025-59247?

Check the MSRC entry. The record gives no fixed version and I could not confirm one.

Is it exploited in the wild?

Not according to the record. It is not on the CISA KEV list.
