CVE-2024-4069 is a medium severity SQL injection in Kashipara Online Furniture Shopping Ecommerce Website 1.0. NVD scores it 6.3. The flaw is in search.php through the txtSearch parameter. The record lists no patched version, so take the code off public hosting or rewrite the query to use prepared statements.

What's affected

The record lists one version: Online Furniture Shopping Ecommerce Website 1.0 from Kashipara. The vulnerable file is search.php and the parameter is txtSearch. NVD describes it as remotely reachable, with the vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L.

This kind of project is typically published as free sample source code for learning or small sites, not as a product with a release process. The record names no fixed version and no advisory from a maintainer. We cannot confirm a patch exists, so check the original download page for a newer release before assuming one does.

Weakness class: CWE-89 (SQL injection). The identifier assigned in the VulDB database is VDB-261795.

How to check if you're exposed

First work out whether you run this code at all. Search your web roots and repositories for the file name and the product name:

grep -rIl "search.php" /var/www 2>/dev/null
grep -rIn "txtSearch" /var/www --include="search.php" 2>/dev/null

If search.php exists and builds a SQL string from txtSearch by concatenation, the code is exposed. Review the source: a query assembled with string joins is vulnerable, while a prepared statement with bound parameters is not.

Also check whether the site is reachable from the internet, and whether the database account it uses has more rights than it needs.

What to do now

  1. Decide whether the application needs to exist. Many deployments of sample code are test installs that can simply be removed.
  2. If it must stay, take it off the public internet or place it behind authentication at the web server.
  3. Rewrite the query in search.php to use prepared statements with bound parameters instead of string concatenation.
  4. Reduce the database account to the minimum rights, and make sure it cannot read tables unrelated to the app.
  5. Review the other PHP files for the same pattern, since sample projects often repeat it.
  6. Watch for a maintainer release and read its notes before upgrading.

Why it matters

SQL injection happens when user input becomes part of a database query without being separated from the query structure. The database then treats attacker-chosen text as instructions. Depending on the database rights, that can expose customer records, alter data or bypass logins. NVD rates the impact as low across confidentiality, integrity and availability, which is why the score is 6.3 and not higher, but a real deployment with sensitive data can be worse than the score suggests.

Kashipara has three SQL injection entries for this product in this CVE range alone (CVE-2024-4069, CVE-2024-4070 and CVE-2024-4071), so review the whole codebase rather than one file. The record does not say this CVE is exploited in the wild and the KEV flag is false. It does say a public write-up exists.

Quick check

Is there a patch for CVE-2024-4069?

The record lists none. Check the source download page, and otherwise fix the query yourself with prepared statements.

Does CVE-2024-4069 need a login to exploit?

The record vector shows low privileges required, so some access may be needed. Check how your copy handles sessions before relying on that.
