What belongs in a customer security summary for vulnerability management?

A customer security summary should state scope, process, targets, recent results, exceptions handling and date. One accurate page beats a long deck.

A customer security summary for vulnerability management should be one or two accurate pages covering scope, process, remediation targets, recent aggregate results, how exceptions are approved, and the date of the data. Say only what you can prove, and offer evidence on request.

Why a standard summary helps

The same questions arrive in every questionnaire and procurement review. A maintained summary gives sales, security and legal one source for answers, and it keeps statements consistent over time.

Wording rules

  1. Use present tense for what you do today, and say "in progress" for what is not finished.
  2. Do not describe an audit as complete if it is not. Do not imply a certification you do not hold.
  3. Avoid absolutes such as "we fix everything". Targets are targets.
  4. Give counts with percentages.
  5. Date the document and name the owner.

Keep it consistent

Store the summary in a controlled location, with version history. When a questionnaire answer differs from it, one of them needs to change, and the change should be logged. Review it quarterly or when your process changes.

Pair with a trust page or portal

Many buyers prefer self service. A trust page with the summary, plus a gated area for reports and SBOMs under NDA, reduces back and forth. Put the same date on both.

What not to send

Open critical findings with asset details, internal architecture diagrams without an agreement, and other customers' data.

Quick check

How long should the summary be?

One or two pages. Link to deeper evidence available on request.

How often should it be updated?

Quarterly, and whenever your process, tools or targets change.
